Ms. Alis, English, Spanish and French
Ms. Alis is originally from Los Angeles, California. She completed her undergraduate studies in Linguistics and French at the University of California Irvine. She also holds a MA in Linguistics: Language and Culture in Europe, from Linköpings Universitet. Prior to joining IEGS she taught in both France and Sweden.
Mr. Armstrong, Maths, Business, Head of King House
Mr. Armstrong has worked for Internationella Engelska Skolan since 1993. He holds a BA in Economics (University of Victoria) and a teaching degree from the University of Alberta, Canada. He currently teaches Maths and Economics.
Ms. Baum, Swedish and Swedish as a second language
Ms. Baum is a teacher student at the University of Stockholm, becoming a teacher of Swedish as a Second Language. She has been teaching Swedish to foreigners since 2017, giving lessons in both Komvux and privately.
Mr. Bjarnestam, Geography and History
Mr. Bjarnestam is a Licentiate in Geography from Uppsala University. In his research Mr. Bjarnestam has focused on urban geography, perceptions of urban sustainable development and the planning process of the new Slussen area in Södermalm. He also holds a Master´s Degree in Geography, History and History of Religions from the universities in Stockholm and Uppsala, as well as being a licensed gymnasium teacher with a degree from the Stockholm Institute of Education, Lärarhögskolan.
Ms. Bogren, Theatre
Ms. Bogren is a qualified theatre teacher who studied theatre at Stockholm University and Mälardalens Högskola in Eskilstuna. She has taught drama for ten years and has acted in and directed many plays in the Stockholm region.
Ms. Constantin-Toye, French and German
Ms. Constantin has an MA in German from Université Toulouse II as well as a Research Diploma, DEA, Université Toulouse II. In addition, she also holds qualified teacher status in Sweden and France (C.A.P.E.S).
Ms. Crompton, Art
Ms. Crompton holds a BA HONS in illustration with animation from Manchester School of Art and a Teaching degree in Arts Education from Cambridge University. She currently teaches Design and IB Visual Arts.
Ms. Dadey, Maths
Ms. Dadey has a BEng in Computer and Communication Systems Engineering from The University of Birmingham. She also has a post graduate degree in Secondary Education specialising in Mathematics from St. Mary’s University, Twickenham. She has taught in London, United Kingdom.
Mr. Davis, Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Mr. Davis has BSc with majors in Environmental Science (Environmental Physics and Toxicology) from Lincoln University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning from Christchurch College of Education. Mr. Davis moved to Stockholm in late 2014 from South Otago in New Zealand. He has taught Physics, Chemistry and Agriculture in Nelson, South Otago and the Far North of Queensland in Australia.
Ms. Doiron, Biology and Natural Science and Head of Curie House
Ms. Doiron is originally from Ottawa, Canada. She has an Honours BSc with Specialisation in Biology and a minor in French as a Second Language from the University of Ottawa. She also has a Bachelor of Education from Queens University where she became a qualified teacher for Biology and Chemistry at the Intermediate-Senior level. She has prior teaching experience from high schools in Ottawa, Canada and in Vienna, Austria.
Ms. Ek, French and Spanish
Ms. Ek is a qualified teacher from Cape Town, South Africa. She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in French, Italian, Spanish and minors in Politics and Hebrew from the University of Cape Town, an Honours degree in Modern foreign languages, specializing in Italian language, literature and translation, and a dual masters degree in Spanish focusing on the teaching and learning of Spanish in international and multicultural contexts from the Universities of Deusto (Bilbao), Pompeu Fabra and Barcelona (Spain), as well as the University of Stockholm. Aviva taught Spanish, Italian and French at international schools and language academies in South Africa prior to coming to IEGS. She is also a qualified translator and simultaneous interpreter from Spanish and Italian to English.
Mr. Falk, Social Science and Religion
Mr Falk is a qualified teacher from Stockholm University. He holds a Master of science in education and teaches civics and religion.
Mr. Foster, IB Base Year Coordinator
Mr. Foster has a Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Education from Griffith University, Australia. He has taught in Australia and the UK before coming to Sweden. He now also oversees the base year for IB DP preparation, teaching the orientation course and working with the academic and pastoral elements of the program to ensure students are prepared and informed to make appropriate choices in their diploma programme.
Ms. Granlund, Natural Science and Biology
Ms. Granlund has a Master of Education in English and Biology from Lärarhögskolan/Stockholm University. In addition to Biology, she has studied Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science to be qualified to teach Science Studies as well. Ms. Granlund teaches Biology, Science and GYAR at IEGS.
Ms. Grant, IB English and Philosophy
Ms. Grant is originally from Vancouver, Canada where she completed her undergraduate studies in English Literature at Simon Fraser University. She also holds a Master of Education degree. After working as an Educational Consultant at an award winning practice for two years, she attended Canada’s only IBO-recognised teacher education program at the University of British Columbia, where she specialized in IB-DP English Literature. Prior to joining IEGS, she taught at two esteemed International IB schools in Canada.
Mr. Grape, Drama
Mr. Grape is a qualified theatre teacher who studied theatre at Uppsala University and Stockholm University. He also studied theatre pedagogy in Norrköping. He has acted in and directed numerous plays and has been involved in free theatre groups in Norrköping and in Stockholm.
Mr. Hemingway, English, Philosophy and Academic Manager
Mr. Hemingway is from the UK. He holds a degree in English along with a teaching qualification. He teaches English and Philosophy, and is also the Academic Manager at IEGS.
Mr. Hill, English and Social Science
Mr. Hill is originally from Scotland. He is a qualified teacher from Stockholm University and holds an MA in Political Science & European Studies from Dundee University. Mr. Hill currently teaches English, Civics and International Relations.
Mr. Hull, Maths and Head of Math Department
Mr. Hull has a Bsc(Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Manchester in the UK. He gained Qualified Teacher Status from the University of London and has over 10 years experience teaching mathematics in the UK, Middle East and East Africa. He was previously the Head of Mathematics at an International School in Kenya, Nairobi. He also holds a CELTA qualification which entitles him to teach English as a foreign language.
Ms. Hörnell, Swedish
Ms. Hörnell has a Master of Education from Umeå University, majoring in English Literature and Swedish in 1997. She has also studied German at Linköping University and Dutch at Stockholm University. Since 2006 she has taught Swedish IB and from 2011 and onwards she has also worked for the International Baccalaureate as a Senior Examiner. She has taught in The Netherlands, China and India.
Mr. Jansson, Swedish as a Second Language
Mr. Jansson is currently teaching Swedish and Swedish as a Second Language at IEGS. He has also taught students at Lärarhögskolan i Stockholm from 1999 to 2004.
Mr. Johansson, Religion and History
Mr Johansson is a qualified teacher from Stockholm University. He holds a Master of science in Education and teaches Religion and History. Mr Johansson has 10 years of experience in recruitment and human resources in the Norwegian logistics industry.
Mr. Kühn, Art, Physical Education and Head of Russell House
Mr. Kühn was born in South Africa and studied Physical Education and Geography at the University of Pretoria. He completed his Higher Educational Diploma at the University of Pretoria in 1992. Following this Mr. Kühn completed a postgraduate in Psychology at the University of South Africa. In 2001 Mr. Kühn moved to Sweden and took part in various courses in Art and Form and is currently also working as a professional artist.
Ms. Larsson, Swedish
Ms Larsson is an upper secondary teacher in Swedish and History with a degree from the Stockholm Institute of Education, Lärarhögskolan. She also holds a master in Curriculum Studies, with focus on Assessment from Uppsala University. Before she started teaching at IEGS, she taught Swedish at Jagellonian University in Cracow, Poland, for four years.
Mr. Liljas, History and Swedish ab initio
Mr. Liljas is originally from Uppsala, Sweden, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in History and English as well as a Master’s degree in Education. He has also studied German, Music and North America Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. In 2018, he completed his studies at Kristianstad University to become a qualified Swedish as a Second Language teacher. Many of his formative years were spent in US schools in Indiana and California. Prior to joining IEGS, Mr. Liljas taught for many years in London, UK, both in state and private email@example.com
Mr. Liljegren, Swedish and Head of Swedish Department
Mr. Liljegren has a Master of Education from Umeå Universitet and is a qualified upper secondary teacher in Civics and Swedish.
Ms. MacKenzie, Biology and Chemistry
Ms MacKenzie comes from Fredericton, New Brunswick on the east coast of Canada. She received degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of New Brunswick, then spent several years working in the non-profit sector for environmental organisations. Ms MacKenzie returned to school to complete her Bachelor of Education in science and French immersion, and has taught science in both the English and French streams, as well as elementary French immersion.
Mr Mahadeo, Physical Education and Head of Aesthetics Department
Mr Mahadeo has an Honours Degree in Science with a specialisation in Exercise Physiology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. He has also attained an undergraduate qualification in Sports Management & Coaching along with being a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength Conditioning Association (NSCA) in the US. He is a qualified teacher since 2005, having taught in South Africa and the UK.
Mr. McElwaine, History and Head of Social Sciences and Law Department
Mr. McElwaine is from Northern Ireland. He has a BA in Modern History and English Literature from the University of Oxford. Mr. McElwaine also completed his teacher training at Oxford. He taught in both the UK and Spain before moving to Stockholm.
Ms. Månsson, English and Head of English Department
Ms. Månsson has a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching Communication, Arts and Literature from the University of Minnesota. She taught middle and high school in Minnesota before moving to Stockholm. She currently teaches English in the Swedish system and English A on the IB.
Ms. Nordlund, Law
Ms Nordlund is a qualified teacher in Law with a Master of Law as well as a Master's degree in Education from Stockholm University. She also has twenty years of experience from working in the insurance world.
Mr. Pettersson, Swedish
Dr. Pol, Maths
Dr. Pol holds a PhD in Philosophy and a Master of Science in Theoretical Physics. He is also a qualified teacher. He currently teaches Mathematics (HL) in the IB and the Swedish curriculum.
Ms. Pope, English
Ms. Pope is originally from the UK. She holds a Masters in American Literature from Keele University and an MA in Comparative & International Education (Stockholm University) and is a professional translator – Swedish to English (British Institute of Linguists). She is also a qualified teacher. Ms. Pope teaches English at IEGS.
Dr. Pratt, Chemistry and Biology
Dr. Pratt holds a PhD from the University of Sussex. He has previously worked at Växjö University, Stockholm University and has been a Marie Curie Research Fellow in France. He is a qualified teacher.
Ms. Raja, Natural Science, Chemistry, Physics and Head of Natural Science Department
Ms. Raja is a qualified teacher who has moved to Stockholm from Manchester, England. She has a Bachelors degree in Biomaterials (BMedSci) from the University of Birmingham. She taught in England for several years before moving to Stockholm in 2013.
Mr. Richardson, Maths and Physics
After initially teaching Physics in the UK, Mr. Richardson worked for three years in the nuclear power industry, then spent 30 years in Germany and the US working for Hewlett-Packard in various marketing and management roles in the IT industry before returning to the UK in 2010 to teach Physics, Electronics and Astrophysics to pre-University students. Since moving to Sweden in 2013, he has been active in the Stockholm Astronomy community and as a presenter of popular Astronomy, he has a Swedish radio callsign (SA0KJI) and holds a BSc in Physics and Astrophysics from the University of London.
Ms. Rukalski, French and Spanish and Head of Modern Language Department
Mrs. Rukalski has been teaching at IEG since 2005. She is a qualified teacher and has an M.A. in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures from Parma University (Italy), with a specialisation in communication processes. She also has an additional Master of Education in French and Italian from Stockholm University.
Ms. Sallmander, Swedish
Ms Sallmander has a 2018 Master of education at Stockholm University, majoring in English literature and Swedish as a second language. She has previously worked in the music industry as production manager, the movie industry as production designer and has also run her own art gallery. During the early 00s, she lived in New York City working as a decorative painter.
Ms. Sang, Economics, English and IB DP Coordinator
Ms. Sang is originally from Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Business Management, a Graduate Diploma in Anthropology and a double Masters in International Relations and International Trade and Commerce Law. She has also completed her teacher qualification at Macquarie University in Sydney. Ms. Sang teaches English on the national program and Economics on the IB. She is also the IB DP Coordinator at IEGS.
Mr. Shaw, Civics, International Relations, and English
Mr. Shaw is originally from Toronto, Canada. He has a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta with a specialisation in Social Studies and English Literature. In addition to his primary areas of focus, Mr. Shaw also has a background in ESL instruction, gaining TEFL certification in 2017. He currently teaches Civics, International Relations, and English at IEGS.
Ms. Sigfridsson, Swedish
Ms. Sigfridsson is a qualified teacher from Stockholm University. She is educated in the subjects Swedish and Geography with a Master degree in Geography and a Master degree in Education. She has previously worked with e-learning and film, but currently teaches Swedish at IEGS.
Ms. Simister, Psychology and CAS Coordinator
Ms. Simister is a qualified Secondary School teacher from Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree, and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology). She has also completed a pedagogical certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Teaching. Prior to joining IEGS, she taught in international schools for many years in Stockholm.
Ms. Sjödin, Swedish
Ms. Sjödin has a Master of Education from Uppsala University and is a qualified teacher in Swedish and Religion.
Ms. Slocum, English
Ms. Slocum is a qualified teacher who holds a Bachelors of English and Masters of Teaching from the University of South Carolina. Prior to moving to Sweden, she taught English, creative writing, and film for two years in America and has spent the last two years teaching science, english, and maths at IES Nacka and IES Uppsala.
Mr. Stanley, English
Mr. Stanley comes to IEGS from Vancouver, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (English and French) and a Master of Arts (English) from the University of Victoria, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia. Prior to becoming a teacher he spent ten years working in marketing and communications as a copywriter. He also has extensive experience volunteering as a mindfulness facilitator and youth crisis counsellor.
Ms. Tavacova, Maths
Ms. Tavacova received her Master's degree in teaching Mathematics and English at Charles University in Prague, where she had also worked as a Mathematics teacher at a secondary school. Before moving to Stockholm in 2019, she also worked as a teaching assistant in a specialised educational establishment for children with physical and/or mental disabilities. Throughout her university studies, she volunteered as a tutor in non-profit organisations aimed at socially or culturally disadvantaged children.
Mr. Tebo, English
Mr Tebo came to Sweden from the US ten years ago with a Fulbright grant. He has a Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy, as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Filmmaking. Before moving to Sweden, Mr Tebo taught filmmaking and film studies at US universities for ten years. After years of working in film and radio in Stockholm, he become certified to teach high school in Sweden. For several years he taught in high schools throughout Stockholm, before landing at IEGS.
Dr. Tekle, Social Science, Enviromental Systems and Societies, Environment and Energy
Dr. Tekle is originally from Eritrea and holds a B.A. in Geography & Sociology and M.A. in Geography from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He holds a PhD in Plant Ecology from Uppsala University. He is also a qualified teacher from Uppsala University and has a background in teaching and research.
Mr. Udo, Maths
Mr. Udo is a qualified teacher in Mathematics and English (Stockholm University). He is from Sweden but spent 10 years in New Delhi, India, before coming back in 2000.
Mr. Urey, Spanish
Mr. Urey is originally from Cochabamba, Bolivia. He has a degree in Hispanic Philology and Education Sciences, specializing in teaching ELE, from the University of Stockholm.
Mr. van Staalduine, Maths and Head of Pavlov House
Mr Matthijs van Staalduine has a master's degree in Mathematics and Education from the Technical University Delft in The Netherlands. He has worked in The Netherlands at a high school, and moved to Sweden in 2012. He first worked at IES Nacka and later at IES Skärholmen as the Head of Senior School.
Mr. Walker, History, Social Science and International Relations
Mr. Walker is from Britain. He holds a BA and MA in Historical Research from Lancaster University, England. He taught in London for several years before moving to Stockholm.
Mr. Wang, Math
Mr. Wang is originally from Chongqing, China. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from Beijing Language and Culture University in Computer Science and Technology and a Master’s Degree in Media Management from KTH and Handelshögskolan. He also has a teacher certification from Sichuan Normal University, China. Prior to joining IEGS he taught in international schools for many years both in China and Sweden.
Mr. Wellander, Swedish
Mr. Wellander holds a Master in Literature from Stockholm University and is a qualified teacher in Swedish and history (SU). Mr. Wellander teaches Swedish at IEGS.
Ms. Xu, Chinese
Ms. Xu holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Beijing Normal University, a Master degree of Electrical Engineering from KTH, a Master degree of Communication and Computer Technology from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and a master degree of Education from Stockholm University. She previously held a post as a lecturer at Capital Normal University, China. She is a qualified high school teacher.
Dr. Young, Biology
Dr. Young is from the USA and completed his Bachelors of Science and PhD in the field of biochemistry from University of Nevada and Oregon State University. He earned a Swedish Docent qualification in Molecular Biology from Stockholm University. He has taught at Stockholm University and has also worked as a research group leader at Stockholm University and senior researcher at Karolinska Institutet.
Mr. Zanarelli, Philosophy
Mr. Zanarelli has an MA in Philosophy and French Literature from Lausanne University, Switzerland. He holds also a degree in Pedagogy. He has been teaching Philosophy and French Literature in a Swiss public Gymnasium, before joining IEGS in 2018.
