Clubs Spotlight: Global citizens shaping the future
Most high school students want to make the world a better place, but not many show the initiative to put that into action.
Èlia Lloansí Gelabert is one student at IEGS who has inspired to shape the future through her active leadership of a school club. She is one of our third year IB students, stepping up to become a global changemaker! Through her club initiative, The Global Citizenship Programme (GCP) develops young leaders, not only in essential skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication but also taking on the challenge of fundraising for multiple charitable organisations.
Within the year that the club has been running GCP has raised global awareness for the UN Charter & global unity, children's rights & access to education, feminine hygiene, humanitarian aid in war-torn countries and breast cancer. This has led to funds being raised for UN Day, Barnfonden, Caritas Sverige, SWEDO and Bröstcancerförbundet respectively. By engaging in these global projects, the students are gaining a deeper understanding of world issues, learning how to make a positive impact through volunteer work, and inspiring others to join their cause. The club will continue to go from strength to strength through more initiatives that will follow in the coming year, and the support it receives from the greater IEGS community.
