Q1. How many points do I need?
A. 1 Average grade intake at IEG Enskede for Natural Science last year was 285 and for social sciences 265. Keep in mind that these are averages and that some students can occasionally be accepted with around 220 points. We welcome your application and have an active waiting list.
Q2. Can I change my specialisation or program once I have enrolled?
A. 2 Depending on individual circumstances, we can accommodate your wishes.
Q3. What happens to my Swedish when I study so much in English?
A. 3 It continues to improve at our school. Our students’ performance on the National Tests in Swedish is outstanding. Our Swedish teachers are committed and talented.
Q4. Which subjects are taught in Swedish?
A. 4 Law, Swedish and Civics, and Social Science A, Creative writing and rhetoric.
A. 5 We use Swedish as the teaching language for Modern Foreign Languages.
Q6. How are students supported socially and intellectually?
A. 6 We have a variety of student support mechanisms, social activities and a thriving student body. IEG supports its Student Council, Mentorship programs and we have Year Teams and assemblies. We employ a student care team comprised of an Assistant Principal, a Counsellor and a Nurse who provide support whenever needed. We have a study hall offered daily that is staffed by a teacher to assist students with their studies. All 1st year students take Ethics and Life Skills classes that include focus on independent learning skills.
Q7. What kinds of after school activities can I expect?
A. 7 The after schools activities depend on the interests of the students and what they ask and work for. They can include a drama club, creative writing club, sports of varying kinds and whatever good ideas the student council is able to realise.
Q8. What facilities does the school have?
A. 8 In addition to ample classroom space, we have working labs, auditoriums, a large aula, our own gym hall, art and dance studios, restaurant and cafe on premises.
Q9. Are there fees for lunch?
A. 9 Lunch is paid for by students directly to the catering firm.
Q10. What are the characteristics of a typical IEG teacher?
A. 10 We recruit and employ international, native speaking English teachers with a high level of education in their subject matter. Passion for their subjects and of course teaching are prioritised. We invest in international recruitment, including active recruitment of the brightest and best in England, the US, Canada and Sweden. We emphasize the value of teaching credentials and pedagogical training. Our teachers receive relevant professional development via the IES Teaching Academy.
Q11. Why is it important to receive a high school education mostly in English?
A. 11 English is the language of the world. A command of the English language opens doors to University studies abroad and in Sweden, facilitates and understanding of academic texts and lexicon, prepares fully us for the workforce and gives us an edge in an increasingly international environment.
Q12. What are the special challenges involved in studying in English after going to a Swedish middle school (högstadiet)?
A. 12 It can be challenging in the beginning. This can last a few weeks to a few months depending on how much motivation you have and how much time you invest. With determination and focus, it becomes natural to speak and write in English. Our students develop confidence and fluency in English.
Q13. Who are our informal partners in the academic communities?
A. 13 Two examples include KTH and Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
Q14. Can I take examinations that are recognized internationally?
A. 14 Yes. In addition to the Swedish “student examen”, we offer the Cambridge International AS level in Math and English (other subjects may become available depending on demand). Additionally, we offer a fast-track class for students excelling in English and Math.
Q15. How many students are there in the school?
A. 15 Over the next five years, we will grow to be 700 students strong. Our aim is to maintain a small scale, community feeling. Thus, the school will be organized into four houses to encourage team work and a sense of belonging.
Q16. What are the defining factors for our school culture?
A. 16 We have a strong sense of community and foster a feeling of mutual respect. It is also a school that encourages academic ambition so that each student develops to the fullest of their potential.
