IEGS Principal Set to Leave School in April
After joining Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm as principal in 2005, Dr Margret Benedikz will be moving on to take up the position as Head of Sigtuna Humanistiska Läroverket on April 1, 2013.
During her time at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm Dr Benedikz has overseen the expansion of the gymnasium, moving the school from Enskede in 2008 to its current premises at Allhelgonagatan.
As well as changing location the school has grown in size from 225 students to its current 725, with staff increasing from approximately 20 full-time teachers to over 60. The school currently offers seven Swedish national gymansium programmes and also became a fully-accredited IB World School in 2012.
"It's been a fabulous opportunity to work as Principal at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm over the past eight years," says Dr Benedikz. "During my time here I've worked with very talented teachers committed to helping every student develop to their full potential. I cannot emphasise enough the outstanding role they have played in making IEGS the successful school it is today.
"Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm students are special," says Dr Benedikz. "Over the years I have been touched, amazed and inspired to watch these young people blossom. I take pride in every one of my students' success and the spirit they bring to the school. I will be moving on to new challenges at Sigtuna confident that the school will continue to attain the outstanding academic results it has come to achieve," says Dr Benedikz.
"I would like to thank Ms Barbara Bergström, founder of Internationella Engelska Skolan, for the opportunity to work in such an inspiring organisation."
Dr Rachel Heimeier, currently Principal of Internationella Engelska Skolan Uppsala, will pending trade union MBL, take Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet Södermalm to the next stage.
Peter John Fyles, CEO of Internationella Engelska Skolan, said: “Dr Heimeier is a proven Principal who I am confident will take the school further forward.
“Following an impressive career as a medical researcher, Dr Heimeier has proven what she can achieve in the world of education when she opened a brand new school in Uppsala. I look forward to seeing her bring the same professional determination to the gymnasiet.”
