On Monday this week school counsellor Mr Andrew Maier waved goodbye to his hair. Or at least some of it.

"We gave him a mohican," said Thomas Ghebremeskel. "For charity!"

Mr Maier had promised to let the students shave his head if they raised over SEK 12,000 for charity at the Haiti Fundraiser just before half-term.

"I should have set the price higher," joked Mr Maier, who witnessed staff, students and visitors to the school donate almost SEK 25,000 to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The money will be split between Médecins Sans Frontières and The Red Cross.

Mr Maier says he doesn't regret shaving his head.

"It was for a good cause. The kids shaved it on Monday and I've gone around school all week like this," he said, proud of his temporary new look.

Mr Maier says the students were surprised he didn't flinch.

"I told them this is a lesson in standing by your word," he explained. "That's an important lesson for all of us."

Student Thomas Ghebremeskel, who led the auction at the fundraiser, got to cut Mr Maier's hair.

"It was pretty cool. I was impressed Mr Maier kept his word," Thomas said. "I respect him for doing this."

Mr Maier won't be keeping his new look hairstyle. From Monday he'll be sporting a close crop !
