Spring Term fun with sports, house competitions and drama

IEGS Blog | 26 February 2025

In February we received the sad news that IEGS will close in June 2026. I am incredibly proud of everything that we have built together at IEGS —the strong community, the vibrant school spirit, and the academic excellence that defines us as a school. We have had some fabulous examples of this over our 25 years as a school, and during the past few weeks the life of the school has been as bright as ever.

Our Houses have brought love and positive energy to the hallways with their Valentine’s Day decorations, reminding us of the warmth and togetherness that make IEGS so special. King House outdid themselves again with their Valentines corridor decorations, celebrating the theme of friendship. Kermit the frog was available for selfies in the Russell corridor, and I could not resist this photo opportunity. To complement this our Student Care Team asked students and staff to share words of love on little heart shaped post-its, which created a giant heart expressing these feelings. A few love song lyrics, corridor crushes, teacher appreciation and tributes to the weather that day (a beautiful crisp, sunny winter day).

Three inter house competitions have been completed. One which brings loud cheers from the crowd, one that allows for creative expression (Creative Writing - winner soon to be announced) and the third brings silent reflections and deep inward breaths. Yes, our IHC Basketball finals did not disappoint this year! Curie girls and Pavlov boys emerged victorious after closely contested matches, showcasing some incredible teamwork, determination, and House Spirit! Whilst our annual IHC Chess tournament had Curie emerging as the overall winners—congratulations! I am always super impressed by the calm focus of our highly competitive and skilled players.

And speaking of impressive performances, our third-year Drama students put on a fantastic production of Puffs, a hilarious parody set in the world of magic. Given our strong House traditions, it was a fitting and entertaining experience for everyone. I was so impressed by the talent and hard work that brought the play to life—it truly felt like we had been transported to the School of Magic!

Enjoy the rest of Sportlovet, a much appreciated break and perhaps time for some more winter sports!
