Success of the IEGS Debate Society, 2019

On June 2nd, the IEGS Debate Society’s year came to a close with the KG Cup. It has been a year filled with new experiences, challenges, and successes. From placing second nationwide at SSDC, to building our peer to peer coaching skills, to pulling off several impressive fundraisers, the team has been busy focusing on growth and progress forward as a society.
We have been pleased to see enthusiastic participation from the first year students who have embraced the unique experience that World Schools debating provides. With consistent and effective mentoring from our second and third year students, the first year students have wholeheartedly embraced the opportunities to improve their debating skills.
The IEGS debate society is, by design, student run and student coached. The consistent work and effort the students pour into debating continues to inspire. The future is bright for the IEGS Debate Society and we look forward to seeing what next year brings.
Achievements of IEGS Students at the International World Schools Debating Championship.
We are pleased to announce that two IEGS students have been chosen to represent Sweden at the international World Schools Debating Championship. Andreas Backman and Akshat Deshpande, both third year IB students, will be travelling to Bangkok, Thailand in August 2019.
These students were chosen after being rigorously evaluated over a course of several competitions, and took part in additional meetings and training sessions. Their diligence, work ethic, and consistent commitment to improvement were on display from the national competition in Sweden to international competitions in Latvia and Estonia. They have shown a collaborative spirit and a willingness to take constructive, critical feedback on board. All of us here at IEGS are proud of their work both within their own debate society and within the national team. They embody the IEGS spirit of a lifelong learners.
Best of luck to Andreas and Akshat as their preparations continue through the summer!
